Capture Modes

Hydra is more than an HDR app. It includes 5 modes for taking better pictures and videos: HDR, Video-HDR, Lo-light, Zoom, and Hi-Res.

Overlay Grid

An overlay grid option is provided to compose the picture more easily, if needed.

Integrated with Photo Albums

Hydra saves to and interacts natively with your photo album. This avoids duplicate photos.

HDR Mode

Parameters of the camera sensor are continuously changed to retrieve highlights and shadows from the scene, merging together up to 20 input frames.

GPS/Location Metadata

Location is saved into images/videos taken with Hydra. You can disable this feature from Hydra settings.

Inline Help

Help topics are available within the app for each capture mode. You can review them to help you take better pictures.

Lo-light Mode

Light is amplified by merging up to 10 images. Specific image merging & denoising is applied to generate final image.

Specific JPEG Encoding

Hydra uses a specific JPEG encoder to cope with large output images (up to 32 MP), speed and memory efficiency.

Powerful User Experience

Switch capture mode simply by swiping, just like the built-in camera. You can even hold after a swipe to continue changing to next modes.

Hi-Res Mode

Specific super-resolution method is used to merge 50+ input images to generate images up to 32 megapixels, and allowing you to capture more details1.

Saving of Unprocessed Photos

Native image can be saved without any processing, alongside the processed one making it easier to compare Hydra-processed and unprocessed images.

Accurate Computation

Most internal computation is performed in floating-point for higher precision.

Zoom Mode

This mode generates 2x, 4x or 8x (telephoto lens) zoomed image with a super-resolution algorithm but with a narrower field of view2.

Image Orientation

Detected image orientation is saved into the output image. This is determined from accelerometer data, and works even if the device is orientation-locked.

Apple Watch Support

Hydra can be remotely controlled by Apple Watch. Capture mode can be changed & photo/video capture intitiated.

Video-HDR Mode

Use of single frame HDR technique. It captures the scene with darker exposure settings, and applies HDR tone mapper to generate final movie frame.

Metadata Viewing

Hydra gallery is able to display very larges images as well as metadata of taken pictures (including Hydra shooting mode).

1. Hand motion is used to generate the missing pixels in the high-resolution output.

2. The output has the same pixel dimensions as native sensor.
